Xuanwu Quan(玄武拳)

One Week Workshop with Master Zhou

Location: Daoist Gate Center Xuan Ju, NH
Monday through Friday
July 31 to August 4

What is Xuanwu Quan (玄武拳)?

In Daoist martial arts practice, we strive to harmonize yin and yang through Taiji. We then separate yin and yang through the practice of Liangyi. And Xuanwu Quan is also named Liangyi Quan. As the name and description imply, it is an advanced style in the traditional Wudang Martial Arts.

It requires a deep understanding of the soft flow of Taiji movements, and then it pivots to the explosive power derived from Bagua Zhang, Xingyi, and Baji Quan. Imagine the seawater crest gracefully rolling toward the beach; as it approaches and rushes to the rocky shore, it builds momentum and then crashes like an explosion against the rocks. Xuanwu movements fuse a dragon’s silkiness and a tiger’s crouching supremacy at speed like a lightning bolt. It showcases the practitioners’ skills in a perfect union of slowness and speed, softness and hardness – unique kung fu dynamics of Wudang Daoism.

See Master Zhou’s demonstration of the Xuanwu Quan.
