Location and Duration

WHEN: January 3 – January 31

Recordings of the class will be made available*

One month of Qigong practice, twice a week, to prepare us for the Winter cold, the end of the season. Our practice, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, will focus on enhancing the water element of Winter organs: kidneys and the urinary bladder.

What is Winter Qigong?
Winter is when our natural world retreats to mark the end of the season; as the temperature drops, the water freezes, and the ground turns solid. It is a time when we need our bodies to rest, replenish, and nourish our Qi – the reservoir that strengthens us throughout the cold season. At this time, people should not disturb the yang and should go to bed early and get up late so that we nourish ourselves undisturbed. In addition, we eat more tonic, avoid the cold, and keep warm. If we stall the nurturing of winter qi, we cannot restore the energy needed to rejuvenate for the next season’s change. The result will be the suppression and weakening of our kidneys. Once spring arrives, they may suffer from flaccidity. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to build the foundation of storing qi energy in the winter so that our ability for health renewal in the spring is guaranteed.

What Will You Learn?

In this class, we will start with a warm-up, then meditate:

  1. We massage our toes, feet, knees, and hands during gentle exercises before meditation.
  2. While seated, we move slowly, bending and straightening our spine, bringing our knees close to our chest, and stretching our hands upwards as far as possible.
  3. We will release any tension in our body to warm the kidney qi, invigorate the spleen, eliminate lung ailments, dispel wind toxins in hands and feet and relieve knee pains.

* The class recordings will be available after each class for viewing for 10 days after its release. The recorded link will be sent via email. We ask your discretion in not sharing the link outside our practice.
