The Lure of Taiji Jian

Since ancient times, Wudang has been associated with the straight sword, just as Shaolin is associated with the staff. The Jian’s movements are reflections of Yin and Yang: yielding, charging, hiding, and displaying. They are rounded, quick, in all directions simultaneously, and stealthy, avoiding direct clashes but using opponents’ power against them. Taiji Jian has flexible blades not meant to meet force with force; instead, a swordsman should deflect and redirect blows before moving to strike. The nature of the weapon lends itself naturally to the principles of the Wudang arts of effacing brute force with graceful, skilled fluidity. The Taiji Jian practice will inspire you.
